Monday Chickens: 1/17/11

Okay, so I don't have a chick chock-full-of-feathery-photos Monday Chickens post up today. Blog FAIL. However, you can rest assured that Henrietta, Leroy, and the Peeps (sorry, they still don't have names) are doing just fine despite the nasty weather we've been having lately. Henrietta still lays a couple of eggs a week; hens lay much less frequently during the cooler months when there's much less daylight. (Some hens stop laying altogether during winter months.) The Peeps, despite being Henrietta's babies, aren't allowed to sleep in the coop with her and Leroy. Why, I haven't the slightest idea. They spend their nights atop the chain-link fence at the edge of the chicken yard, come rain or snow or wind. Amazingly, they're okay...while their parents, who sleep in the protected coop every night, have a touch of frostbite on their combs and feet. It boggles my mind.

Winter Wonderland? HA!

There IS snow and ice in Small Town today, but for some reason Blogger isn't letting me post any pictures of it from my cell phone. And I've not yet taken any photos with my digital camera because 1) I've been working on my syllabi all day today, and 2) it is COLD AS FUCK out there, in El Seebeno's immortal words. Division II University wisely canceled the first day of spring semester today, and while classes are a go for tomorrow, I'm not sure there will be that many students there. My street looks clear, but I haven't tried driving on it—nor do I know what the roads are like between Small Town and D2U City. (Most other colleges in this part of the state are staying closed until Wednesday.) So we shall see what tomorrow's drive brings. If my car slides even a little on the drive in, I'm taking my happy butt home and calling in. No sense risking my life.

Friday Kittehs: 1/7/11

Mom's cat Fluffy (real name: Lusee) gives the camera a cute, baby-kitty look as she weaves around my ankles. Or maybe that's an "eat shit and die" look. With kittehs, sometimes it's hard to tell.

Hope everyone had a safe and pleasant New Year's celebration, and that 2011 is treating you well so far. The holidays here were very nice, and I hope to have some interesting and fun things to post before long. Lots of changes, and in the end completely for the better. Hooray!

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2011!

Hope all of you are having a quiet and peaceful New Year's Day. Today brings steady rain and a contemplative mood to Small Town, and that's just fine by me.

I wish all of you a happy and blessings-filled 2011!
