Myrtle Mae Monday: 09/08/08

Kittehs like leftover BBQ brisket and Brunswick stew.

They really, reeeeally like it.

And so do chickens.

I wish you could've seen this showdown. It was priceless. And you can imagine who backed off first. (Hint: it wasn't Myrtle Mae.)

Hmmm, that piece of tomato looks nice and juicy—mmm, and the corn does, too.

If you click on this photo to enlarge it, you can see the bits of stew in her beak.

She's her Mama's chicken, all right—my red-feathered girl loves her Southern food.

That chicken has good taste!

You should get a couple more and have a flock of red-feathered fussbudgets.

Thanks, Cranky. :-) A friend is thinking about giving me two of her older hens who've stopped laying, just so MM can have some company. When/if that happens, I'll most certainly post on it!

OK, I can't stand it anymore. Myrtle Mae needs some chicken friends! She is going to get confused!

TNT: You are SO right. I finally figured out the "video" function on my digital camera, so as soon as I figure out how to post videos to YouTube, I'll be posting some crazy MM-versus-kittehs footage.

Woolywoman: Well, MM's already confused... :-) But she DOES need friends of the poultry persuasion--and I'm working on that.

But wouldn't MM be at all territorial? Look at how she treats all those kittehs! You don't think she'd do worse to another chicken???

It was very, very nice of you to go out to supper just to bring them some leftovers. Your animals have it GOOD! (But we knew that long ago.)

I dunno, Katharine...I've wondered a lot whether MM would be territorial. Chickens are social animals, but not necessarily friendly; they try to establish a "pecking order" (nyuk-nyuk) when new animals come in. So, I guess we'll just have to see. I'll document it all on E&P, no worries. :-)

Wait-is she eating chicken in that Brunswick stew?!! Chicken cannibalism...it seems so wrong! But she sure is a funny bully chicken!
